Elevation of Leslie Hore-Belisha, British Minister of Transport, to Cabinet rank yesterday was described in a New York Herald-Tribune dispatch from London today as possibly the Cabinet’s “answer to the Jew-baiting British Fascists.”

The Tribune correspondent wrote:

“Leslie Hore-Belisha, who has had spectacular success as Minister of Transport, was promoted to full Cabinet rank. While he had been in line for advancement for some time, it was thought that the recent Fascist riots in the East End hastened his elevation. Hore-Belisha is a Jew–the first one invited into the present British Cabinet. This move might well be regarded as the Cabinet’s answer to the Jew-baiting British Fascists.”
