Biro-Bidjan, autonomous Jewish territory in the Soviet Far East, was declared a failure last night by Prof. Selig Brodetsky, Zionist leader, in an address reviewing the position of world Jewry.
Prof. Brodetsky declared the “widely heralded Crimean Jewish State” had also broken down despite the large sums contributed from America.
The situation of Jews in Hungary and Austria was found “menacing” by Prof. Brodetsky, who said it was satisfactory in the British Empire with the exception of South Africa, where it was “doubtful.” The Jewish position in France and the United States was also declared to be doubtful.
