German Nazidom’s taboo on Heinrich Heine, 19th century German-Jewish poet, has been partially extended to Vienna, it was revealed here today.
Mayor Richard Schmitz, it was learned, ordered removal of a marble tablet bearing a bas relief portrait of Heine, with a commemorative inscription, which had been placed on one of the tenement houses built by the Social Democratic municipality of Vienna in 1932.
The removal was accomplished quietly, but it is assumed to have an anti-Semitic and anti-Liberal motive.
