One of the growing industries in the Holy Land is fishing. The blue depths of the Mediterranean and the Sea of Galilee are only beginning to be systematically exploited.

Landings of sea fish increased from 769 tons between October, 1935, and March, 1936, to 1,157 tons for the corresponding period of 1936-1937, according to newly-published figures.

The highest monthly figure for fish landing was reached in February, according to the Monthly Bulletin of Statistics, when 311,249 kilograms of fish was piled up on Palestine’s wharves. More than half of this — 164,410 kilograms — was caught by foreign fishermen.
