The Zionists of Germany, to whom Palestine remains almost the last refuge in the face of Nazi persecution, protested today against the new low Palestine immigration quota as an “insult” to the Reich Jews.
The German Zionist Federation, in connection with the labor immigration schedule of 770 certificates for the four months ending July 31, cabled the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine in Jerusalem:
“Germany’s Jews regard the allocated number of certificates as an insult to their position and trust the Executive will continue to fight against infringement on our rights and for an increase in the number of certificates.”
The Juedische Rundschau, official Zionist organ, pointed out that the fact the schedule covers four instead of the customary six months indicated that a new era was beginning in July. The fact that William G.A. Ormsby-Gore, British Colonial Secretary, will personally defend the new British policy at Geneva proves that a decisive change in policy is contemplated by the British Government, the weekly asserted.
