The hope was voiced in Zionist circles today that Neville Chamberlain, new Prime Minister, would put into effect election assurances he made in 1935 regarding the Government’s policy on Palestine.

It was recalled here that in November of that year, when Mr. Chamberlain was standing for Parliament in the Edgbaston Division of Birmingham, he issued the following statement to Zionists:

“You may be assured that it is the policy of the Government to carry out in the letter and in the spirit the Mandate for Palestine. They will discharge without fear or favor their obligations under that mandate; and, while safeguarding the civil and religious rights of the non-Jewish communities, will continue to facilitate the establishment of a National Home in Palestine for the Jewish people.”
