THE UPPER CHAMBER OF THE HUNGARIAN PARLIAMENT TODAY ADOPTED WITHOUT DEBATE THE BILL GIVING REGENT NICHOLAS HORTHY POWERS RIVALLING THOSE OF A KING. THE MEASURE WAS PASSED BY THE LOWER HOUSE ON JULY I, THE HAVAS NEWS AGENCY REPORTed.

PREMIER KOLOMAN DARANY THANKED THE MEMBERS FOR THEIR UNANIMOUS ACTION. THE REGENT’S NEW POWERS WILL ENABLE HIM TO SUSPEND FOR SIX MONTHS APPLICATION OF ANY LAW HE BELIEVES TO BE ‘DANGEROUS TO THE NATIONAL INTEREST.” IF THE LAW IS PASSED OVER THIS MODIFIED VETO, HE CAN SUSPEND IT FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS.
