DR. HJALMAR SCHACHT HAS AGAIN SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION AS ACTING ECONOMIC MINISTER OF GERMANY AND PRESIDENT OF THE REICHSBANK, ACCORDING TO PERSISTENT REPORTS SUPPORTED BY CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE, BERLIN DISPATCHES TO THE NEW YORK TIMES AND THE ASSOCIATED PRESS DECLARED TODAY.

CHANCELLOR HITLER WAS REPORTED TO HAVE REJECTED THE RESIGNATION BUT DR. SCHACHT INSISTED SO VIGOROUSLY THAT HE FINALLY AGREED, THOUGH THE DATE AND MANNER OF THE REICHSBANK PRESIDENT’S LEAVING OFFICE WERE NOT SETTLED, THE TIMES SAID. ONE WIDELY ACCEPTED VERSION WAS THAT DR. SCHACHT WOULD QUIT AFTER THE NUREMBERG NAZI CONGRESS AND BEFORE OCT. 10, THAT HIS DEPARTURE WOULD BE SURROUNDED WITH A HALO OF SPECIAL HONORS TO BE PAID HIM AT NUREMBERG OR ELSEWHERE, AND THAT HE WOULD CONTINUE IN THE CABINET AS MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO.

RUMORED AS DR. SCHACHT’S SUCCESSOR IN THE ECONOMICS MINISTRY, THE TIMES SAID, IS STATE SECRETARY WALTER FUNK, REICH PRESS CHIEF, WHILE COUNT LUTZ SCHWERIN VON KROSIGK, NOW FINANCE MINISTER, IS REPORTED AS A POSSIBILITY FOR THE REICHSBANK PRESIDENCY. THERE IS ALSO A LONG-STANDING PLAN TO COMBINE ALL MINISTRIES BEARING ON ECONOMIC PROBLEMS INTO ONE FOUR-YEAR-PLAN MINISTRY UNDER COL.-GEN. HERMANN GOERING.

WHILE DR. SCHACHT PLEADED ILL-HEALTH AS THE REASON FOR HIS RESIGNATION, THE REAL REASON, ACCORDING TO THE TIMES, WAS DISAGREEMENT WITH GEN. GOERING’S POLICIES AND NAZI ECONOMIC IDEAS GENERALLY.
