MASS PICKETING BY NATIONALISTS OF JEWISH SHOPS IN CZESTOCHOWA, PART OF AN INTENSIFIED NATION-WIDE ECONOMIC DRIVE AGAINST JEWS, CREATED TENSION THERE TODAY AND RESULTED IN CLOSING OF ALL JEWISH STORES. THE SO-CALLED “HOLY CITY,” IN WESTERN POLAND, WAS THE SCENE LAST JUNE OF SERIOUS ANTI-SEMITIC RIOTING.

CLASHES AND TERRORISM MARKED PICKETING ACTIVITIES IN OTHER CITIES THROUGHOUT POLAND. POLISH WORKERS FOUGHT NATIONALIST PICKETS IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THEM OUT OF THE TOWN OF GOSTININ, NEAR WARSAW, WHERE THEY THREW LINES AROUND JEWISH STORES AND DISTRIBUTED BOYCOTT LEAFLETS. POLICE DISPERSED THE COMBATANTS AND PROHIBITED DISTRIBUTION OF THE LITERATURE.

ALL JEWISH SHOPS IN RADOMSK, IN THE WARSAW DISTRICT, WERE PICKETED BY NATIONALISTS WHO TRIED TO UPSET SEVERAL JEWISH MARKET STALLS. POLICE MADE A NUMBER OF ARRESTS.

TERRORIZATION OF THE JEWISH POPULATION BY PICKETS WAS REPORTED FROM THE TOWNSHIPS OF WESZKOW, ZAMBROW AND LUKOW.

DEPUTY EMIL SOMMERSTEIN URGED THE NATIONAL AUTHORITIES TO TAKE STRONG MEASURES TO PERMIT NORMAL TRADE ACTIVITY IN ALL THE AFFECTED CENTERS.

TEN THOUSAND NATIONALISTS WERE REPORTED TO HAVE ATTENDED AN ANTI-JEWISH MEETING IN POZNAN LAST NIGHT AND TO HAVE TAKEN AN OATH TO HELP OUST JEWS FROM ALL BRANCHES OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY. REPORTING THE MEETING, THE NATIONALIST DAILY WARSZAWSKI DZIENNIK NARODOWY SAID IT WAS ADDRESSED BY ADVOCATE KOWALSKI, PRESIDENT OF THE ANTI-SEMITIC NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
