Jewish Constable Sentenced to Death for Murder of Arab Policeman

The Criminal Assize Court today sentenced Mordechai Schwartz, a Jewish constable, to death for the killing last Feb. 10 of an Arab policeman at the High Commissioner’s camp near Atlith. Schwartz is the first Jew to receive the death penalty since 1929. In passing sentence, Chief Justice Harry H. Trusted said he was convinced the murder was premeditated. Schwartz was granted the right to appeal.
