During eight months of 1937 to the end of November the Palestine Government paid out more for police and troops than it had estimated at its public security expenditure for the entire fiscal year. Payments for security purposes amounted to £1,455,017 from April 1 to November 30, while the estimate for the year 1937-1938 was £1,369,641.
For police and prisons the Government paid out £594,388 during the eight months; for the Transjordan Frontier Force £113,654 and for its contribution toward the British military establishment, £339,732.
During the six months from April I to September 30, 1937, expenditure toward security was £687,644, as compared with £578,744 in the same six months of 1936, the period of the Arab general strike.
