The Polish Parliament today had under consideration a bill for complete prohibition of shechita, Jewish ritual method of slaughtering animals for human consumption, which has been under partial ban since 1936.
The bill has the sponsorship of Deputy Budzinski, notorious anti-Semite, who was rapporteur on the 1936 shechita measure. In presenting the new bill, Deputy Budzinski said it was necessary because "practice has shown that the present shechita law has not achieved the results which Parliament had in view." The same bill proposes that only farmers be allowed to trade in cattle, thus eliminating traders completely.
The Wilno authorities today cancelled all subsidies for Yiddish and Hebrew schools during 1938.
All sports organizations were ordered by General Wilczynski, director of the State Council of Physical Education and Sports, to eliminate from their statutes "Aryan paragraphs" which bar Jews as members. A circular signed by the General declares exclusion of national minorities violates the rules and spirit of sportsmanship and is contrary to the principles of the Council. "Aryan paragraphs" had been introduced by a number of sports unions, among them the lawn Tennis Association.
