A quarter of the 4,000 Jews in the town of Arad lost their citizenship today when the first results of the revision of nationality decreed by King Carol were announced. A court ruled that 1,059 had not submitted sufficient proof of citizenship. Before their names are stricken from the citizenship register, they have five days to appeal the court’s decision.
