The Egyptian Government decided today to recognize Dr. Haim Nahum Effendi, chief rabbi of Cairo, as chief rabbi for the whole of Egypt and the Sudan. Local Jewish communities will remain autonomous, but will be under the general supervision of the Cairo rabbinate.
