The scope of the Goering property registration decree was extended today to include practically every jew receiving an income of any kind, since under a new interpretation by the registration office, salaries, wages and pensions may be computed as capital.
The basis of the law, that only capital of over 5,000 marks ($2,000) need be registered, has not been altered. But it is pointed out that under the new computation, a monthly salary of 60 marks becomes a fortune of more than 5,000 marks if earned by a person younger than 50, since the income may be multiplied by a figure based on life expectancy, varying with the individual’s age.
This new interpretation comes as a shock to Jews throughout the Reich. The registration period in Austria has been extended from June 30 to July 16.
