Eddie Cantor, addressing the Hadassah Luncheon at the Hotel Astor, today attacked Henry Ford for accepting the German Government award on his 75th birthday. Mr. Cantor said: “I question in my heart the Americanism of Henry Ford for accepting this from the biggest gangster in the world. He is a damn fool. Outside of what this may cost him in money, he is a damned fool for permitting the world’s greatest gangster to present him with a citation…why must he make our lot harder?” later he asked: “whose side is Mr. Ford on? I question Mr. Ford’s Americanism and I question his Christianity. I don’t think he is an American and I don’t think he is a good Christian. So long as we have men like that we have to learn to organize and we have to fight.”
