British newspapers criticized the British Government for failing to suppress terrorism in Palestine.
The Liberal News-Chronicle declared editorially that the situation in Palestine was rapidly deteriorating and the Government appeared to be doing little or nothing about it. Enumerating the difficulties of combating terrorism in Palestine, the paper said that order must be kept if only because “in the present state of Europe our attention should not be distracted by disturbances far afield.”
The laborite Daily Herald asserted: “As long as British policy is in the melting pot the disturbances will continue for Arab leaders see the disturbances as a means to change British policy to their advantage. It is no wonder either when you consider how British policy has changed.” The editorial concluded by calling on the government to make up its mind soon regarding Palestine policy.
