The number of Jewish refugees from the Sudeten German districts is now estimated at 15,000 of a total Jewish population in those areas just ceded to Germany of 22,000. About 9,000 of the refugees are now in this city.
The Supreme Council of Jewish Communities has formed a refugee committee, placing at its disposal 80,000 kronen (about $2,800) for immediate relief purposes. A second committee has been formed by the Jewish party and the Zionist organization to negotiate with the authorities for housing accommodation. Jewish leaders are discussing a plan to settle the Sudeten Jews in Carpatho-Russia, which is sparsely inhabited and offers good economic possibilities.
