Italy Arrests Jews As Anti-fascists

Special Italian police units have arrested the leader, assertedly of Jewish origin, of an alleged anti-Fascist organization discovered operating in northern Italy, it was announced here today the group was uncovered by the “o.v.r.a.” (special secret service whose job is to detect anti-Fascist activities). The organization was said to be composed of several cells.

The alleged leader of the subversive movement, Prof. Eugenio Colorni, was said by Italian officials to be a Jew. Colorni was reported to have confessed that he had maintained political contact with other Jews, both in Italy and abroad. his reported confession was said to have led to the arrest of a number of italian Jews, including former Deputy Dino Phillipson of Florence. Those arrested will be tried before a special court.
