Reports from Vienna today indicated the Jewish quarter there was in a state of terror as anti-Semitic demonstrations showed no signs of abating.

Many cases of broken arms and legs have been treated at Vienna Jewish hospitals. Among the injured was an Englishwoman, whose name was not learned. The gallery of the Leopoldstrasse Synagogue, one of the largest in Vienna, was reported destroyed by fire that broke out at three a.m. Sunday. The fire was believed to have been started by an incendiary bomb.

The windows of Jewish houses, temples and shops are no longer safe after nightfall, small boys having adopted the sport of stone-throwing with disastrous results, even to “aryan” windows. In some cases, Jewish shop owners have been dragged out in the middle of the night to raise locked shutters, exposing windows to the boys’ stone barrages.
