The German Foreign Office today denied reports that the Reich was negotiating with the Dominican Republic or other Latin American countries on the possibility of establishing a haven for Jews.
The Angriff, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels’ newspaper, last night announced that a vast anti-Semitic propaganda campaign, featuring 1,500 public meetings addressed by Nazidom’s best orators, would soon be launched in the capital and would continue into March. Next Tuesday at the Kroll Opera House Goebbels will lay down the lines of this propaganda fight against, the “eternal Jew,” the newspaper said.
The Essener National Zeitung, which is close to Field Marshal Hermann Goering, said today that within two months 12,000 Jews will be given legal permits to emigrate from Germany. The whole question of emigration has been officially regulated by the setting up in Vienna of a central office known by the abbreviation “Zefja,” the newspaper declared. Delays up to the present, it said, have been due to the fact that foreign countries, particularly Britain and the United States, have closed their doors to Jews, “despite the immense territories which they hold.”
The Vienna Office has been installed in the palace of Baron Louis de Rothschild. It has been organized in such a way as to be able to dispose of 600 to 700 applications for permits each day. From Jews in Vienna alone 135,000 applications have been received. A majority of these already have been on file for a long time. The Zefja, according to the National Zeitung, is working in close collaboration with Jewish organizations as well as with the interested Government departments.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Agriculture today issued a circular stating that henceforth Jews must not bet on races, and must not enter pari-mutual betting offices.
