Withdrawal of “The German Reich and Americans of German Origin,” 58-page book compiled by 14 noted Americans presenting evidence of dangerous Nazi activities in the United States, was demanded today by George Sylvester Viereck, author and pro-German propagandist whose connections with the Nazi movement were investigated by a Congressional committee in 1934. In a letter to the New York Herald-Tribune, Viereck termed a warning contained in the book that friction between Germans and other Americans here might lead to “unrest and possible bloodshed” as “almost an invitation to violence.” Unless the book, which was published Dec. 21 last by the Oxford University Press, is withdrawn, Viereck warned, it will “justly arouse the fierce resentment of all German-Americans and of all Americans, irrespective of origin who believe in fair play.”
