Formation of The Friends of Democracy, an organization which will launch a nation-wide campaign to arouse the American people in defense of democracy, was announced today by the Rev. L.M. Birkhead, national director. The organization has national headquarters in Kansas City and an eastern regional office in New York, with Dr. Philip A. Swartz as regional director. It is planned to establish later another regional office in San Francisco or Los Angeles.

The announcement contained a three-point program of education for “development of democratic civilization,” development of a program for ” intelligent modifications in our democracy” and “fostering the ideals expressed in the Constitution.” A series of six pamphlets has been prepared on the attack on democracy, which will be distributed throughout the country. It is also planned to use the press, radio and motion pictures ” to expose the ever-increasing dangers facing democracy.”
