Two Jews were shot dead today in continuing violence in the wake of Britain’s decision to set up an independent state in which Jews would be fixed as a one-third minority.

An Arab mob halted a railway engine on the outskirts of Haifa and fatally shot Morris Schechtman, 35, the engineer. Earlier, Arab terrorists shot and killed Ernest Behar, 37, an immigrant from Germany, on the boundary of the Musrara quarter in Jerusalem.

Arab terrorists in Haifa fired on a truckload of Jewish workers. They were driven off by the Jews, who used licensed revolvers. Later an Arab mob surrounded and set fire to the truck, whose occupants were rescued by police.
