The largest Hebrew daily in Palestine, the laborite Davar, was suspended for a week by the authorities today for publishing an editorial on illegal Jewish immigration to Palestine. The order also suspends the reserve license for the supplementary newspaper. Omer and shuts down the paper’s printing press Zionist laborite circles pointed out that they were thus deprived of an organ for the greater part of the Zionist Congress.
The military authorities announced suspension of the recent large scale release of person held in concentration camps for violation of the emergency regulations. The releases inaugurated because of diminished terrorism were followed by an "increase in snipings bombings and intimidation of Government servants." They will not be resumed, the announcement said until there has been an improvement in the situation.
Jewish circles pointed out that the statement applies to the Arabs since only Arabs have lately been released from the Government concentration camps.
Two settlers in the Jewish colony of Kfar Menachem arrested yesterday in connection with the bombing of an Arab house in the village of Indibna, were released on bail today. Troops investigating the bombing which occurred in the home of a member of the Husseini family, were reported to have discovered evidence indicating that Arab terrorists did the dynamiting in order to implicate Jews.
The Beirut Arab newspaper El Yom, organ of the former Mufti of Jerusalem, reported today that the British Colonial Office has invited the Arab Supreme Committee to confer with it on amendments to the Palestine White Paper designed to meet Arab demands. It added that a delegation from the committee would go to London for the conference in September.
