Herschel Grynszpan, youthful Jewish refugee whose assassination of a German Embassy official touched off last November’s pogroms in Germany, today applied for permission to join the French Army as a volunteer.
From the jail cell where he is lodged pending trial, Grynszpan wrote to the Ministry of Justice: “In these tragic hours I apply for your permission to give my blood as a volunteer in the ranks of the French front fighters.”
