That many Italians are opposed to racism is admitted in a letter from one of Italy’s highest Government officials to a friend here, it was revealed this week by the Boston Jewish Advocate.
The writer of the letter is Marshal Italo Balbo, Governor of Libya and long known to be opposed to Italy’s racial policies. Its recipient is G.N. Longarini, publisher of the Boston Italian newspaper La Notizia, which has been combatting anti-Semitism and racism.
“Of particular interest,” Marshal Balbo states in the letter, “I found your comment on racial issues, and I must truthfully say your views are shared by many of us here in the Kingdom.”
