The Daily Telegraph reports that despite the five percent increase in the 20 percent fine on Jewish fortunes in Germany, it was estimated that the German Government would have the greatest difficulties in raising the entire $400,000,000 levied on the Jews after the assassination of a German Embassy official in Paris last November.
So far only $300,000,000 has been collected, the report said, but this does not give an idea of how Jewish capital was hit, since Jews had to sell their property almost invariably at a heavy loss. The Telegraph quoted Berlin circles as saying that wealthy Jews would have to make up the deficit.
