A charge that German-Americans are being victimized by the German-American Travel Service, organized by Hermann Schwinn, Los Angeles leader of the German-American Bund, through being charged excessive prices for delivery of food packages to Germany is made by the News Letter of the News Research Service, Inc., of Los Angeles.
The news letter declares that Sehwinn’s agency offers to deliver, for $8.50, a package of food whose actual retail value amounts to about $2.
A similar food package service is carried on in New York by Forta, Inc., which, working through the Hamburg-American Line, cables orders for delivery of food to persons in Germany. The $8.50 is supposed to cover the cost of cabling, buying the food in a neutral country and delivery to the recipient. The agency states that since Oct. 26 it has accepted more than 10,000 orders for gift packages.
