Public reprimand of five members of the Chamber of Fasces and Corporations for using their positions to profit from forced sale of Jewish enterprises was interpreted in informed quarters today as a step toward bringing fair play into execution of anti-Semitic legislation rather than a move toward mitigation of the anti-Jewish program launched by the Government in 1938.

The reprimand, by specific order of Premier Mussolini, was published in the Fascist “Order of the Day” by National Secretary Ettore Muti, with the explanation that the Fascist officials had “demonstrated a lack of political judgment by availing themselves of the prestige endowed them as national councillors to protect the interests of competing commercial groups in the private sale of a Jewish business.
