Reports published abroad that some 1,800 Jewish refugees marooned at the Danube port of Sulina had been ordered back to Germany by the Rumanian authorities were termed “inexact” today in a telegram from the Refugee Relief Committee in Bucharest. The telegram added that negotiations were still being conducted with the hope that the refugees would be able to continue their journey from Sulina to an undetermined haven this week.
