A total of 1,709 Jews and 392 Arabs enlisted in Palestine for overseas service, the House of Commons was told today by Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald. The figures include the Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps already serving in France, of which 742 are Jews and 306 Arabs.

MacDonald revealed also that High Commissioner Sir Harold Alfred MacMichael had strong reasons to suspect that German agents were among illegal immigrants landed from two ships last month. He added, however, that there was no conclusive proof that the agents were Jews although there was a strong possibility that “some of the Jewish members of the parties of illegals are German agents.”
