Germany was reported tonight to be seeking the appointment of a new Rumanian cabinet headed by Alexander Vaida-Voevod, head of the anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi Rumanian Front and three-time Premier.
A Reuters dispatch from Bucharest said that according to quarters close to the German Legation, Germany had sent an “ultimatum” to the Rumanian Government which was expected to force the resignation of Premier Georg Tatarescu’s Government. German sources were hopeful, Reuters said, that King Carol would then entrust formation of a new Government to Vaida-Voevod. The former Premier served last year as Speaker of the Lower House. He is known as one of Rumania s leading anti-Semites.
