Latest developments in Rumania, restoring the Iron Guard to a place of prominence in the country’s political life, are being closely watched by Jewish circles here because of their important bearing on the Jewish position. The new move, a direct result of intense German pressure coupled with the collapse of France, brings Rumania more than ever under German influence.

While it is expected that King Carol will do his utmost to maintain the present situation, it is believed here that he will be obliged to increase economic relations with the Reich and to give Iron Guardists cabinet posts, but may try to offset them by including National Peasant Party leaders as well. In any case it is believed that the new Party of the Nation will be anti-Semitically inclined and Jews will be excluded, as they were from the Party of National Rebirth.
