The National Labor Committee for Palestine has raised $432,000–an increase of $45,000 over last year–for the Histadruth in Palestine, it was reported yesterday at the annual meeting of the campaign’s national council in the Hotel Pennsylvania, attended by 120 delegates from various parts of the country.
The annual report was read by Secretary Isaac Hamlin, who also read a cable from the Histadruth saying: “We are not frightened by Fascist bombs over Tel Aviv. Work continues in most dangerous places.” Israel Mereminsky, general secretary of the Histadruth, in survey of the labor federation’s activities during the first year of the war, declared that if Italian forces attempted to invade Palestine they would be trapped, unless they first conquered such neighboring countries as Syria, Iran, Iraq and Arabia.
Joseph Schlossberg presided at the meeting. The meeting set Nov. 23 and 24 as the dates for the organization’s national convention and sent a cable to the Histadruth pledging redoubled efforts on the part of American Jews to aid the Palestine Jews.
