The belief that Czechoslovakia will be freed from the Nazi yoke was expressed by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency, and Chief Rabbi Joseph H. Hertz in messages to President Eduard Benes on the 22nd anniversary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic.

“The enslavement of your country was the beginning of the European catastrophe: its liberation will be a sign that the cause of Freedom has triumphed,” Dr. Weizmann said.

Dr. Hertz said: “I feel certain that your country will once more be built up in the spirit of Masaryk and that Czechoslovakia will take its full share among the nations striving for democracy and humanity. “The Jews of Great Britain have always shown great admiration for your people and particularly today in view of the great hardships inflicted on the Czechoslovak nation in its struggle for freedom and justice.”
