More than 14,000 Jewish refugees of the total admitted into the United States during 1940 received guidance and assistance from the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, according to a statement made public today by the HIAS. Of these 5,097 received temporary shelter at the Society’s quarters in New York prior to their departure for various parts of the country.
