The American Jewish Congress announced today that the Inter-American Jewish Conference, scheduled to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, June 9 to 11, will be held instead in Washington. “The change has been made necessary by the developing political situation and followed a consultation with the Uruguayan Minister to the United States and the State Department,” the Congress stated.

The State Department has expressed its approval of the holding of the conference in Washington, it was said. The conference has been postponed until late in August or early September in order to give delegates from Central and South American countries an opportunity to reach this country. The exact date will be set following consultation with various Jewish communities.
