Governor Dwight Green has vetoed the anti-alien bill, it was announced today, on recommendation of Attorney General Joseph Barrett, who ruled that it was unconstitutional since it violated the 14th Amendment.

In his veto message, the Governor censured the State Assembly for adopting such a bill at a time when democracy was in danger from racial discrimination and religious bigotry. He emphasized the plight of refugees who had “fled from tyranny, hoping to find haven in the new world.”

The assembly, meanwhile, approved a bill forbidding the wearing of foreign uniforms at public places.
