With Nazi influence now eliminated from the Arab countries, it was reliably reported here today that negotiations have begun between representatives of various Arab lands for the creation of a Pan-Arab federation in which Palestine and Trans-Jordan would be included.
Two schemes are under consideration, the report says. One, coming from Arab leaders in Syria, provides for the separation of religion from the State in order to win Jewish interest for the project. The Pan-Arab Federation, according to this plan, is to be composed of Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Trans-Jordan with Damascus as capital. The second plan, coming from Iraq, provides for the inclusion of Iraq in the federation and that Bagdad become the capital. Nuri Said, the Iraqi minister to Cairo is reported to strongly support the second proposal.
