Opposition to the anti-Jewish regulations issued by the Bulgarian government, under Nazi pressure, was evidenced in Sofia when the Union of Bulgarian lawyers refused to accept the forced resignation of Dr. Joseph Fadenhechts, its president and former Minister of Justice, according to a report published in the leading Bulgarian Conservative paper, Mir, reaching here today.
Dr. Fedenhecht, who was influential in the Radical Party and represented Bulgaria in several international congresses, is over 50 years old and has been baptised since childhood. His family has been established in Bulgaria for more than half a century.
Meanwhile the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, according to a broadcast today on the Ankara radio, has limited the number of Jews that may engage in professions and trades throughout Bulgaria to 21 doctors, 7 dentists, 6 engineers, 187 grocers, 118 stationery dealers and 67 tailors. The majority of these reside in Sofia.
