The Nazi authorities in Warsaw have issued an order prohibiting Jews in the ghetto from eating vegetables, the Swedish press reports today, Jewish homes are being raided in order to ascertain whether vegetables are consumed there, the Vaestmanlands Tidningen reveals.

With the acute shortage of food in the ghetto, and with Jews prohibited from eating meat, the newly-issued order amounts to a conscious effort to starve to death the Jews of the Warsaw ghetto. Vegetables are the only food upon which the Jewish population has been surviving ever since the Nazis started to ship all other foodstuffs from occupied Poland into the interior of the Reich. Every free inch of lend in the ghetto yards has been cultivated by the starving Jewish inhabitants for gardening, some Jews even attempting to grow vegetables on the porches of their dwellings.
