Preparations were completed here today for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first synagogue in Australia founded in Melbourne in September, 1840, on the week proceeding the High Holidays.
In connection with the celebration a message was received here today by cable from Rabbi Hertz of London, praising the Melbourne Hebrew Congregation “for its record of religious endeavor and achievement,” and stating that “English Jewry rejoices in the centenary of Judaism in Victoria.”
