Japanese steamers sailing for America this week to repatriate American citizens, have refused to accept as passengers Jews who have valid American visas but who hold Polish passports, it was disclosed here today.
At the same time the Japanese authorities continue to dump into Shanghai more and more Polish Jews who have been stranded in Kobe and other cities in Japan. The Committee for the Assistance of European Jewish Refugees in Shanghai finds it difficult to take care of the refugees, the majority of whom are sheltered in synagogues and in the premises of the Shanghai Jewish Club. It is estimated that there are no more than 150 Jewish refugees from Poland left in Japan, and even they will soon be shipped to Shanghai by the Japanese authorities.
