The purpose and scope of the Inter-American Jewish Conference which will open in Baltimore on November 23 were explained by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, President of the American Jewish Congress, and Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the World Jewish Congress, at a meeting with representatives of the Jewish press. Both leaders emphasized that the Conference was being held with the consent of the various governments in South America as well as of the State Department of the United States, which has been most helpful in facilitating the admission of delegates from other lands.

They defined the principal aim of the conference as being to secure “a common understanding leading to effective cooperation among Jews of countries in the Western Hemisphere with relation to activities affecting Jewish life here and abroad.”
