The confiscation of $37,000,000 in Slovakian currency from Jews in Slovakia whom the authorities are now deporting to ghettos in remote parts of the country, is reported here today.
The report states that the Slovak authorities have confiscated 500,000,000 kronen, equivalent to $17,000,000, from Jews for a future mass-emigration project, without permitting the money to be utilized by individual emigrants. An additional 600,000,000 kronen, or about $20,000,000 has been confiscated by the Government.
Details of the mass-deportation of Jews from Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, contained in this report, reveals that all of the 14,000 Jews residing in Bratislava have received orders to leave the city before the end of this year. Similarly all Jews living in cities whose population is over 5,000 must leave. The expelled Jews are not allowed to take with them more than 60 1bs. of belongings.
The report also reveals that Jews in Slovakia are permitted to receive only four ounces of bread daily. It states that on the Jewish New Year the Jews in Bratislave were driven from their synagogues where Rosh Hashanah services were held, and were forced to clean an elementary school which formerly belonged to the Jewish community, but was requisitioned and is now occupied by the Germans.
