No further negotiations are being conducted at present between the Jewish Agency and the British Government in connection with the formation of a Jewish army, but Zionist circles here seem to attach importance to the fact that the British Government has not formally withdrawn its previous acceptance, in principle, of the idea of a Jewish Army.
It was stated in authoritative Zionist quarters today that though the negotiations are deadlocked, it would be premature to make any forecast as to the ultimate success or failure of the project. Zionist leaders believe that the stipulation advanced by the British government that the members of the Jewish military forces must prove that they will be able to return to their countries of origin is not to be considered a serious obstacle for the realization of the plan for a Jewish Army should the negotiations be resumed.
