Responding to an appeal from the American Red Cross for assistance in launching its $50,000,000 drive for emergency war funds, the National Jewish Welfare Board, through its president, Frank L. Weil, today pledged the use of the Board’s facilities and organizational strength in the effort.
Mr. Weil, in a message to Norman A. Davis, Red Cross chairman, said that the “National Jewish Welfare Board wholeheartedly endorses the campaign. We offer you the cooperation and facilities of our 325 community centers and our 225 Army and Navy Committees reaching principal cities of the country. We are urging each of them to give you maximum support. Our organization will render the fullest possible assistance.”
The Board also announced today that emergency funds have been sent to its representatives in Hawaii and the Philippines. After three days of continuous attempts to establish contact with its workers stationed at these bases, the Board finally received a brief message from Israel Weinstein, JWB worker in Honolulu for the past twelve years, reading “send funds quickly.” The Philippine worker, Morton I. Netzorg, so far has not been contacted, although funds and instructions have been sent.
