Creation of a War Service Department of B’nai B’rith to coordinate its existing war service projects in seven major fields and to serve as the instrumentality for the initiation and execution of additional activities in an expanding program of service to the nation was announced here today by Henry Monsky, president of B’nai B’rith. At the same time, it was announced that over 5,000 members of B’nai B’rith and of Aleph Zadik Aleph, its youth organization, are serving in the armed forces of the United States.

The seven fields in which B’nai B’rith war service is already in operation are civilian defense, Red Cross cooperation, sponsorship of and participation in community meetings and rallies on war service, assistance to government agencies, collaboration in Army and Navy welfare work, stimulation of the purchase and sale of defense bonds and stamps and continued contributions to war relief agencies.
