Two Jewish instructors of the Zebulun Seafaring Society in Palestine were credited by British Admiral Cunningham with having saved a British freighter when it caught fire during an attack by enemy bombers in the harbor of Famagusta, Cyprus. The two are Dov Galinski and Emil Fuchs.
An official communication from the Admiral addressed to the Zebulun Society acknowledges the bravery of the two Jewish naval instructors. It reads: “It has been brought to my notice that during an enemy air attack on the steamer El Fath on August 21, considerable presence of mind and courage was exhibited by the above officers. I shall be glad if you would inform them that their good services have been noted by me with much satisfaction.”
